Silver, an American Miniature Horse, has given over 4,000 individualized Therapeutic Carriage Driving lessons to the special needs community! He is 19 years old and has embraced his job with such grace. He serves the underserved. The students who he services cannot, for many reasons, do any other kind of therapeutic horsemanship due to their individual impairments.

He is also the horse we use for our Advanced Independent Drivers. They can drive a driving dressage course with Silver with perfection! He not only is the rock star of our program, he’s also pulled Santa’s sleigh in the local Nutcracker on Ice performance yearly for 16 years, has done many end-of-life visits to nursing homes, birthday parties for our students, visited schools and has done Christmas reading time in the local libraries.

Silver embodies a Hero in the horse world! He knows his job, knows his students, protects them, encourages them and serves them with a wonderful attitude. We will never have another horse who will pass our way that serves our needs for Therapeutic Carriage Driving as Silver.

Silver was a runner-up in the 2019 Therapy Horse of the Year contest. He was nominated by Dawn Martin of Hoof and Harness Experiential Learning. Learn more about their services at hoofandharness.org.
