For years, Eliza loved riding at Hoofbeats Therapeutic Riding Center. But it wasn’t until Eliza met Blueberry that a unique and powerful bond was born. Together they became unstoppable.

Blueberry took care of Eliza and he knew when she was ready to advance her riding skills. When practicing to ride independently—without side walkers or a lead line for the Special Olympics Equestrian Games—Eliza and Blueberry developed their own language. Blueberry and Eliza learned to “kiss!” Eliza would give Blueberry a “kiss” sound and Blueberry would step into his energetic flowing trot. When they reached the end of the arena, Eliza would give a “kiss” again to Blueberry and he would slow to a confident walk.

Eliza earned many 1st place blue ribbons in the Special Olympics as an independent trot rider on Blueberry. Blueberry was a nationally acclaimed therapy horse for Hoofbeats Therapeutic Riding Center inspiring thousands of smiles to thousands of riders for over 11 years.

His work of service and inspiration continues through his book, Blueberry’s Gift.
